Recommendation No. 7/2025. (VI.23.) of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (Hungarian National Bank) standardizes the assessment of ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) criteria by financial institutions, including financial enterprises, when granting new corporate loans. The questionnaire attached to the recommendation aims to standardize the collection of ESG information and to supplement risk management processes with sustainability considerations.
The MNB aims to provide clear guidance on ESG risk assessment and data collection, promoting the spread of sustainable financing practices and consistency in law enforcement.
ESG compliance can affect companies' financing options, so it is important that companies are aware of the new requirements. The ESG questionnaire will be introduced gradually: from July 1, 2025, it will be mandatory for new corporate loans exceeding HUF 500 million, and then gradually for loans of HUF 350 million, HUF 200 million, and HUF 100 million by 2028.
When applying for financial services, the companies must complete the ESG questionnaire and submit it to Deutsche Leasing Hungaria Zrt. Previously submitted ESG information will remain valid until the new report is published, but the company may request an update if new, relevant ESG information becomes available.
