Leasing in Spain
Leasing in Spanish is „arrendamiento financiero“. Spain has been familiar with leasing since 1965, when the first manufacturer-independent leasing companies became active on the Iberian Peninsula. For the first 15 years, however, leasing did not play an important role in Spain. In 1980, after Franco’s dictatorship came to an end, Spain finally liberalised its trade practices with Europe. Meanwhile, there are about 40 leasing companies in Spain. Most of them are part of banks, savings banks or automobile producers. Pan-European leasing companies are rare. And this is where Deutsche Leasing sees its greatest opportunity.
In recent years leasing has enjoyed rapid progress. This positive development can also be contributed to tax incentives by the Spanish government.
The Spanish market can hardly be compared to the leasing markets in other European countries. „Arrendamiento financiero“ means exclusively finance leasing. Furthermore, operational leasing and renting are offered. Especially on the automotive market these two play an important role. In recent years, machine leasing has become increasingly important. On the customer-side, small and medium-sized companies dominate. They represent about three quarters of all lessees. Large companies represent an additional twelve percent.
